Students Shine in Glass Fusing Club

Our new Glass Fusing Club has got off to a fantastic start, and it has been a real pleasure to see students diving into such a different and exciting medium. In just two sessions, they have already learned how to safely score and cut glass, explored how to plan and layer their designs, and begun assembling their own pieces with growing confidence.

It has been particularly impressive how quickly students have adapted to using specialist tools and techniques. What can feel quite unfamiliar at first, cutting and shaping glass, has very quickly become something they are approaching with care, control and increasing independence.

We have already had three finished pieces successfully fired in the kiln, with several more currently in waiting to go in. Seeing the transformation from carefully arranged fragments of glass into smooth, fused final pieces has been a highlight, and students have been genuinely excited to see their work come out of the kiln.

Perhaps most rewarding of all has been watching their creativity come through in such personal and varied ways. From bold colour combinations to more intricate, detailed designs, each piece reflects the individuality of the student who made it. The atmosphere in the room has been focused, calm and purposeful, with a real sense of pride developing around the work being produced.

The photographs accompanying this article capture some of these early moments, students carefully cutting and shaping glass, assembling their designs, and proudly holding their finished pieces. There are also some close-up glimpses of works in progress, showing the thought and care that goes into each stage.

We are very much looking forward to seeing how these designs develop over the coming weeks, as students grow in skill and confidence and begin to take on larger and more ambitious pieces.
