An Impressive Start to the Year for Kingsley Mathematicians

On 22 January, 41 Year 11 students received their results from the IGCSE Mathematics examinations taken in November. We are immensely proud of their achievements. For the second year in a row, the results have been record-breaking, surpassing all performances since numerical grading was introduced in 2017.

Our aim is to prepare students thoroughly so they can approach their external examinations with confidence. Sitting these in November provides valuable experience of external assessment ahead of the full examination series in the summer. With almost two-thirds of grades awarded at 9–7, a group of students is now focussing on the FSMQ Additional Mathematics course, which covers many areas of A-level Mathematics.

On 28 January, students from Years 9 to 11 took part in the national UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. We have a strong track record in these competitions, and our students consistently enjoy the problem-solving challenges that stretch their mathematical thinking. Preparation is now underway for the Year 7 and 8 competition, which will take place on 29 April.

Plans are also in motion for one of the most popular dates in the mathematics calendar: Pi Day on 14 March. Previous celebrations have featured digit recitals, dingbats and an array of circular foods. We are very much looking forward to this year’s event, which promises to be equally e-pi-c!
