PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTICES IN INTRODUCTION.
Please use the menu following Mr Mercer-Kelly’s introduction to quickly access letters, news and reminders relevant to your year group (s).
I trust you have all had a good break over the Easter holiday and have had a chance to recharge and refresh ahead of the Summer Term.
The Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh teams went on their camping expeditions over the Easter holiday. The students demonstrated extraordinary grit and resilience as they battled through some very wet and cold conditions. Having assisted with D of E for many years myself I know how hard it can be when the weather is inclement, your feet are wet and sore, and there are still miles to walk ahead of you. Several times I recall the phrase “if it’s not raining, then it’s not training” being quoted to weary looking walkers. Whilst they would initially grumble about the hardships they were facing, there is something of real value in that saying though; it is during the most challenging of situations that one learns to persevere and exceed one’s own expectations. This coming weekend our Year 10 students will be out on their Bronze D of E expedition and I hope that they have a positive learning experience over their two days, whatever the weather – good luck!
In response to feedback from parents last term I am keen to improve how we communicate with you, as it was a common theme mentioned by many families. Having reviewed this, we are going to be making the following improvements from this week;
The Cornflower – each Friday you will continue to receive your weekly communication from The Kingsley School containing all the important notices, letters and reminders that you need. This will also have a link to our online calendar as well, plus key dates that are coming up. The intention is that the Cornflower will be your primary information source and we encourage you to spend time ensuring that you read information that is relevant to you and your child.
We will be producing a brand-new newsletter that will celebrate pupil successes, share stories and give feedback on events from across our community. This lighter communication will be much more visual and interactive for you to read at your leisure and will be produced every three weeks or so, starting in a few weeks’ time.
We hope that this will give you a more streamlined communication channel from the school about important information, and allow for the celebration of Kingsley moments to be enjoyed in a more visual and engaging manner.
With kind regards,
Important notices and reminders
Covid-19 Guidance Update
As you will be aware, the Government has issued its Living with Covid-19 plan:
Testing is no longer recommended to detect/confirm asymptomatic or symptomatic cases of Covid-19 and it is not recommended that children and young people are tested for Covid-19 unless directed to by a health professional. In addition, the Government has withdrawn school specific guidance.
Amongst other things, the updated guidance seeks to balance prioritising face-to-face educational provision with managing the ongoing health situation. From the start of the Summer Term, we will no longer be providing remote learning for most pupils affected by Covid-19.
If a pupil is unwell, they should be resting until they are well enough to return to the classroom.
If they are not unwell and do not have a high temperature, then advice is that they remain at school.
We will keep this under review. In the event of a major outbreak at one of our schools, it continues to be the case that we may be advised to take additional measures, including a temporary return to remote learning for some pupils.
