Celebrating Success Outside of School
PLEASE USE THE MENU TO QUICKLY ACCESS LETTERS, KEY DATES, NOTICES AND REMINDERS.
Please see below the important reminders, notices and letters from The Kingsley School for this week. Key events and a link to the online School Calendar are also included at the bottom of this week’s Cornflower.
With kind regards,
Well done to all those students who have taken exams this week in the Senior School, whether they be external public examinations or internal summer papers. Congratulations for conducting yourselves maturely and with integrity, and good luck to those continuing with external examinations in the coming week. Pupils in Years 7 to 10 will have their summer papers returned to them after half term once they have been marked and moderated within departments.
Do please remember that these school papers are intended to act as a learning opportunity to not only measure progress but also to refine exam techniques and study skills. Reflecting on the process as well as the outcome is extremely important so that pupils can go on to improve their performance in the future.
PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we will be having a special mufti day on Friday, 27 May for the whole school. We encourage everyone to dress in red, white and blue themed clothes for the day, and various events will be taking place during the week to recognise the remarkable achievements of the monarch over the past 70 years.
REMINDERS FOR PREP PARENTS
A gentle reminder to Prep parents to please name your child’s uniform and to claim any missing items from Lost Property.
We would also like to advise parents that Mrs Parker, our Office Manager will be leaving us on Friday, 26 May, and wish her all the best for her retirement.
PARENT PRAYER GROUP
Parents of children within the Warwick Independent School Foundation are welcome to join our parent prayer group. The group meets twice per half term to pray for the schools and the students. The group is coordinated by Mrs Bonnie Cooper (parent of two boys at Warwick School, and one in the Junior School), in conjunction with the Foundation Chaplain. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Bonnie at email@example.com
MEET THE SENIOR SCHOOL PASTORAL TEAM & PARENT ICT/INTERNET SAFETY WORKSHOP – TUESDAY, 7 JUNE
Following changes to the staffing of our Senior School Pastoral team that came into effect at the start of this term we wanted to offer you the opportunity to come and meet your Head of Year in person. This is an informal event; a chance to put names to faces and socialise with other families in the same year group. Heads of Year 7 to 11 will be there along with the Headteacher, Mr James Mercer-Kelly.
During the event there will also be a talk on keeping children safe online with top tips for parents delivered by Ms Jenny Parkinson-Mills , Director of Digitally Enabled Learning. This is an interactive session that has been delivered at our other Foundation schools and has received excellent feedback therefore we are delighted that we are able to now offer this opportunity to you. I am sure you will agree that the internet is a wonderful place but the more we know about keeping our children safe online the better.
The event will run as follows:
16:30 -17:00 – Meet the Senior School Heads of Year
17:00 – 17:45 – ICT Workshop for parents with Jenny Parkinson Mills
If you are able to attend please sign up by completing the form linked here by 9am Monday, 6 June.
If you have any questions please direct them to firstname.lastname@example.org
SAVE THE DATE: SCHOOL PRIZE GIVING – 5TH JULY 2022
Our School Prize Giving ceremony for pupils in Years 5 through to 13 will be taking place in the afternoon of Tuesday 5th July in the Spa Centre in the heart of Leamington Spa. At this special occasion we will be recognising the achievements of the young people within our community, both in academic fields and co-curricular ventures. We will also be acknowledging their personal development and character building with awards such as the Kingsley Rose, named in honour of our founder and presented to a student who embodies the values and ethos of our school.
Parents of prize winners and performers will be given first priority for securing tickets for this event, and we encourage you to save the date at this stage. Following the ceremony, we will be hosting afternoon tea in The Kingsley School gardens for parents and prize winners.
PARENTING PROGRAMMES AND WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS AND CARERS
Warwickshire Safeguarding offers many excellent services for parents and families, not least the Family Information Service (01926 742274 https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fis) which you can contact about any training or support you might wish to pursue as a family. Accessing these courses does not only have to happen when you are in a time of need, they are there to help upskill us as parents and understand the complex creatures that teenagers are! At Kingsley we keep safeguarding at the heart of many things we do. We have a student Safeguarding Council who meet once a term to discuss relevant topics and have training on how to support friends if required.
Attached below is the latest booklet from Warwickshire Safeguarding with a wide array of course available for you. If you attend one and feel there are nuggets of wisdom worth sharing please do let me know.

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE WEEK AHEAD
As you will be aware, the Government has issued its Living with Covid-19 plan:
If a pupil is unwell, they should be resting until they are well enough to return to the classroom.
If they are not unwell and do not have a high temperature, then advice is that they remain at school.
We will keep this under review. In the event of a major outbreak at one of our schools, it continues to be the case that we may be advised to take additional measures, including a temporary return to remote learning for some pupils.
