PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTICES IN INTRODUCTION.

Dear parents,

Congratulations to all the Kingsley community on an incredibly successful year. Under the most challenging of times we have worked together to ensure that all our pupils continued to learn and grow, took part in as much sport as possible, continued to perform in music and drama and celebrate all their individual and collective successes. We are very proud of every single one of them; as I’m sure you are too.

In light of a year where spending time together has been challenging we will be hosting a Kingsley community event on the afternoon of Friday 17th September. The Big Birthday Bash will bring us all together to celebrate not only Kingsley’s 137th Birthday but also all the birthdays that we had in lockdown, which we were not able to celebrate together with friends. Together we can share some food, enjoy some entertainment and get to know new faces as well as reunite with familiar ones. Please see the attached flyer for more details and save the date.

The Summer Concert goes live this evening at 6pm so please do tune in to enjoy more wonderful music from Kingsley. Thank you to the music staff and Mr Farrington-Smith for making this possible. Next week you will be able to watch the Key Stage 3 production of The Mechanicals’ Return which again is testament as to what has been achieved in school despite negotiating COVID restrictions.

As the year draws to a close we are sorry to say goodbye to some of our colleagues who are moving on to new adventures; some in teaching and some to new career areas. Each of them will remain a valued member of our community and we hope they will join our alumnae and keep in touch. I wish them all the very best. We also would like to wish Sarah Salter and Chloe Caddick all the best as they get married this summer; may the sun shine on you on your special day.

After such a busy year we are keen that everyone can find some time to rest and relax. We will therefore be issuing a ‘Back to School’ Cornflower on Friday 27th August to inform you of the latest guidance and plans for the first week of term.

There is, however, lots of important information in this Cornflower. Please can I ask you to read all the sections below.

The final thing is to wish you all a happy, restful summer holiday before we commence the new academic year when we will welcome Mr Mercer–Kelly to join the Kingsley family.

Best wishes,

Mrs Christina McCullough
Acting Headteacher

LFD TESTING UPDATE FROM THE DFE

In line with the latest guidance from NHS Test and Trace, we will not be asking pupils to continue regular rapid asymptomatic testing through the summer holidays.

Should you wish to continue in the summer holidays we ask that you access testing through gov.uk or your local pharmacy.

Throughout the summer, it remains the case that anyone with one or more symptoms of coronavirus should follow the government guidelines on self-isolation and access symptomatic testing via book a test or by calling 119.

Testing from the new academic year is subject to the latest public health advice. As it stands we are required to LFD test all pupils on site before they return to school. We anticipate that this will take place on Monday 6th September starting with Year 7 and 12 pupils who will then go to class. The other years will then follow for testing but return home and commence school on Tuesday 7th September. Details for this will come out in the ‘Back to School’ Cornflower issued on August 27th.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION 2021-22: MADE IN DAGENHAM

As you know, we are so looking forward to our Senior School production of ‘Made in Dagenham’. Auditions will take place in the week beginning 20th September 2021. Information with key dates, and requirements for audition pieces were in last week’s Cornflower. In order to help pupils prepare their audition pieces we have placed the libretto and script in the student shared area which pupils can access remotely. These documents are in a folder called ‘Productions’ in the shared area. They will also be accessible on Teams through the whole school Team.

SCHOOL HOUSES

I am delighted to announce that Miss Chloe Mason will be our new House coordinator. She will be growing the current program put in place by Mrs Laubscher who I would like to thank for all the hard work she put into this role. A hurdle we have come up against is that the numbers in each house are very imbalanced. We are therefore proposing to move some Senior girls into other houses to correct this and then maintain better numbers moving forwards. We do, however, understand that some families have a particular affinity to a house possibly due to historical family connections, for example. Therefore, if you have a particular connection that you wish us to maintain please email c.mason@kingsleyschool.co.uk .

SUMMER SCIENCE 2021: THURSDAY 8 – SUNDAY 11 JULY

This year the Royal Society’s popular Summer Science Exhibition is going totally digital between the 8 – 11 July 2021. With a packed programme of inspiring talks, fun science from home activities and exciting digital content, there is something for all ages. Nineteen research groups from across the UK will be demonstrating their research through innovative digital experiences, from escape rooms and quizzes to virtual tours and digital games. This year you can explore all the cutting-edge research through our interactive Summer Science hub, with four exciting zones.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM: A MESSAGE FROM FRIENDS OF KINGSLEY

As we rapidly approach end of the year, we expect lots of people will sort out and then put aside grown out of items of uniform. Selling them through (or donating them to) the Friends’ Second Hand Uniform Sale is really easy. You can sort your items and drop them into school during the holidays, no need to store (or put it into your child’s school bag for them to bring in in September).

Everything you need to know is on this webpage:

https://www.thekingsleyschool.co.uk/second-hand-uniform-sale-form/

Please do read it carefully, especially the sellers’ guidelines if you want to sell (it is a separate document linked to on that page with explanations about labelling. If you don’t want money for them, just wash, fold and drop off, no need to do anything else.)

We are also still looking for more volunteers to help sort sales and would love to put one on over the summer holiday but need help with that please. If you are interested in helping out at sales please email shus@kingsleyschool.co.uk with your name and phone number and you can be added to the WhatsApp group where we plan sales.

Our Summer Concert is premiering tonight at 6pm! Please follow the link above or here to view.
